Year 9 Careers Day

Year 9 had a day off of their normal timetable today and took part in a full day of careers-linked activities and business engagements.

It may seem a little early to be thinking of a career at the age of 13/14 however, it is important for students to be aware of the options available to them as they begin to forge their way through the pathways ahead of them.

This annual event kickstarts Leventhorpe students' introduciton to our Careers service and is organised by our dedicated Careers Advisor, Mrs Gill Blair-Park.

Today, visiting employers came in to share their knowlege with the students and give advice on the routes into their industry.  A number of current apprentices also visited Leventhorpe to talk about their experiences, give helpful advice and answer questions.

The day began with an introduction to careers and further education as well as an overview of the Unifrog platform which Leventhorpe uses to help students not only compare every university course, every apprenticeship and Further Education courses but also then apply successfully.

Later on, students attended their previously chosen areas of interest where more visiting employers from industry and colleges gave more specific talks on areas such as construction, sales & marketing, hospitality, life science, healthcare, cabin crew, fashion, events management and teaching.

Finally, the whole yeargroup met in the Hall for an inspirational talk on careers and owning the future by former Logistics Director at Diesel clothing company, Nigel Sam.  He finished off the day with a game of 'Umm.. Err..' in which students had to talk for 30 seconds without the use of either word!  Well done to Emily Upton, the champ!

Year 9 had lots of opportunities to find out more about the choices available to them after Year 11 as well as learning some great employability skills for the future today and had plenty of fun in the process!

With many thanks to our visiting speakers:
