Girls' Athletics Success!
BackOn Thursday 7th July, our Year 7, 8 and 9 girls attended the Nicky Morris athletics event. There were 19 local schools competing, which was a great experience for the students as it meant they were competing against schools they had not come up against before. The event was split into 3 groups. Our group meant that we played alongside Broxbourne, St, Marys Bishop Stortford, Goffs and John Warner.
Year 7
Jessica Lacey, Lois Covill, Phoebe Edmundson, Evie Davies, Harriet Pask, Emily Pask, Sophia Dixon, Tia Weekes, and Isla Fulling.
Results: Sophia won gold in the 70m hurdles, Lois finished 5th in the 100m and Javelin, Harriet won silver in discuss, Evie won silver in shot putt, Phoebe won gold in 800m, Tia won bronze in 200m and long jump, Emily placed 4th in standing triple jump, Jessica won gold in high jump, Isla won silver in 1500m and the 4x 100m relay team Phoebe, Jess, Tia and Sophia won gold.
Year 8
Skye Pearcey, Ffion Hill, Thea Brabant- Rudd, Thea Richardson - Walters, Jessica Hubbard, Louise Duffy, Lilia Davis, Ellie Green, and Francesca Bayliss- Westover.
Results: Thea R-W finished 2nd in 75m hurdles, Ffion won bronze in discuss and placed 4th in 800m, Lilia won gold in 100m, Fran won gold in shot putt, Ellie finished 5th in 200m and 3rd in long jump, Thea B-R won silver in javelin and in 1500m, Louise won bronze in 200m hurdles and silver in long jump, Skye finished 4th in 300m, Jessica won silver in high jump, 4x100m relay team Louise, Jessica, Lilia and Ellie placed 4th and the 4x300m relay team Thea B-R, Skye, Thea R-W and Ffion won bronze.
Overall, the Year 7s finished 2nd with 74 points, with Broxboune winning the group with 76 points. That is a fantastic result. The Year 8 and 9s finished 3rd with 93 points, St. Marys came 2nd with 97 and Broxbourne won with 99 points. As a school we finished in 3rd place with 167 points, only 1 point behind St Mary who finished 2nd and Broxbourne won with 175 points.
Well done to all the girls who represented Leventhorpe. It was a great day out, and behaviour was fantastic. We would also like to thank Lilly Southward and Heather Cannon in Year 12 who came and team managed the event.
