Our Year 9 Careers Day is designed to encourage students to start thinking about potential career paths and how they might get there.  Our Careers advisor and lead, Mrs Blair-Park, organises the day's events to give students an idea of the huge breadth of career paths, expand students’ horizons and increase their awareness of the skills and qualities that they may need to achieve their goals.

Throughout the morning, students were introduced to Unifrog, a universal destinations platform which Leventhorpe uses to help students not only compare university courses, apprenticeships and Further Education courses but also apply successfully.  Hertford Regional College also gave a presentation on what local colleges have to offer as an alternative to a school or university setting.

Representatives from companies from a variety of sectors were invited to speak to groups of students who had shown an interest in that area of employment about the many roles and career paths available.  There were tutorials on napkin folding and special effects make-up as well as tower building and design workshops. Our sincere thanks to the following companies for their time and insight:

After lunch, Nigel Sams spoke to the year group as a whole on the subject of ‘Employability & Soft Skills’ and how something as simple as body language can make a world of difference when interviewing or trying to impress.

We hope that our Year 9 cohort found their Careers Day informative and interesting and that they had the opportunity to explore an area of industry that interests them.  In Year 10, all students will take part in a week of Work Experience during June when they will be able to arrange their own placement and really get a taste of the working world!
