Sister Act
BackThis week is show week! Leventhorpe's production of Sister Act opened last night with the first performance bursting onto the school stage with a bang!
Sister Act is a heartwarming and funny musical based on the original 1992 film and this production will have you clapping in your pew!
It is always amazing to see just how much talent our students possess during school shows and this one does not disappoint! Jemima Smith (Y11), who plays the lead, is pitch-perfect in her vocals and conveys Deloris' wit and humour along with her sassy attitude. She is joined by her nun sisters, played hilariously by Maira Thira (Y12) and Summer Waite (Y10) as they hip-hop and rock their way to bringing the nun's choir into the 21st century and the attention of the Monsieur O'Hara, played by Ben Barrett.
Emily Upton portrayed the immovable Mother Superior to a tee whilst Violet Hall had the audience spell-bound with her beautiful solo in the part of the young Sister Mary Robert.
Sid Martin (Y10) clearly enjoyed playing 'bad guy' Curtis Jackson, Deloris' boyfriend and his sidekicks played by Guy Anthony (Y10), Aaron Bowden (Y11) and Arlo Booth (Y8) had the audience in stitches with their wooing efforts!
Every bad guy needs a goodie and Will Bray's (Y12) performance as laid-back cop, Eddie Souther hit just the right tone: Another true talent on stage, particularly during his solo which saw him turn from cop to rockstar and back within one song!
The set and costumes looked incredible with highlights including moving backdrops and cathedral pillars! There must also be mention of the wonderful congregation of nuns and their carefully choreographed moves, directed by student dance captain, Dora Harcsa (Y10).
And as if this weren't enough to shout about, the entire musical score is played throughout the evening's performance by a LIVE ten-piece band made up of our wonderfully talented Leventhorpe musicians! Even the backstage and tech crew (lighting and sound) were student-led teams, making this whole show something really special.
Every single student involved in this show has clearly enjoyed their role and this shines through in these performances.
This is a show to be seen! With two more nights to go and one of those SOLD OUT, it will be a shame to miss this truly excellent evening of entertainment.
