Science Club extract strawberry DNA!
BackYears 7 & 8 Science Club members were busy extracting DNA from strawberries at lunchtime today!
Having first squished the strawberries to a pulp in a zip-seal bag (the smell was delicious!) students measured 10ml of extraction buffer and mixed this into the pulp.
Assembling a cheescloth filter into a funnel over a test tube, the pulp was then poured in for the liquid to drip through.
Once filtered, cold ethabol was very carefully added to the top of the liquid and before their very eyes appeared a white, cloudy substance which was the actual DNA from the strawberry! The DNA could be carefully hooked out and studied!
Amazing!
